Some of my favourite authors:

Douglas Adams - author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency and Last Chance to See. Wonderful, quirky sense of humour.

Georgette Heyer - author of many Regency romance and mystery novels. I remember reading Simon the Coldheart while on my Grade 6 camp!

Ursula LeGuin - author of The Left Hand of Darkness and the Earthsea book series. A wonderful story teller with a rich imagination.

Diana Wynne Jones - author of Howl's Moving Castle, the Chrestomanci book series and The Tough Guide to Fantasyland. Her books are such great fun to read!

Julie Morgenstern - author of Organizing from the Inside Out. Organiser extraordinaire! Her kindergarten system is life-changing.

Robert Heinlein - author of Starship Troopers and Stranger in a Strange LandCitizen of the Galaxy was the first science fiction book I ever read, and I've been hooked on the genre ever since.

Alexandre Dumas - author of The Three Musketeers, The Man in the Iron Mask and The Count of Monte Cristo. My author of choice when it comes to swashbucklers!

Philip K. Dick - author of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and A Scanner Darkly. I especially love his short stories.

Peter Singer - author of Animal Liberation and How Are We to Live? Ethics in an Age of Self-Interest. Thought-provoking, to say the least.

Agatha Christie - author of a multitude of mystery books featuring Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, etc. I'm rediscovering her!

Nalini Singh - author of the Psy-Changeling book series, commencing with Slave to Sensation. A fantastic paranormal writer from New Zealand.

Some of my favourite book-related sites:

LibraryThing - an excellent online service and community for booklovers. It's designed by a librarian, and links to book records from libraries all over the world. It's where I keep my online book catalogue (see the widget below).

Goodreads - a social networking site for sharing book collections and reviews. A great place to share what you're reading.

My Home Library - contains a gorgeous collection of printable bookplates by famous illustrators, including Quentin Blake, Anita Jeram and Jan Pienkowski.

Project Gutenberg - the original and the best collection of free electronic books on the web, staffed by volunteers. Project Gutenberg Australia is also well worth a visit!

Booko - Australian site that compares book prices from online bookstores here and overseas, and includes currency conversion and postage!

Book Depository - my favourite site for buying books that are hard to find (or too expensive) in Australia. And you can't beat free delivery :)

Uchronia: The Alternate History List - I love the alternate history genre, and this site contains a bibliography of over 2900 novels, stories and essays involving the "what ifs" of history.
