Yesterday after finishing my blog post, I opened Twitter to share the link. Unexpectedly, a video in my feed started autoplaying, and a horrendous sequence of events played out in front of my eyes. I won't go into any detail except to say that it was related to the current unrest in the United States. It absolutely sickened me.

I usually read the news rather than watch it on television. I don't watch embedded videos in online news articles. I've disabled video autoplay on my phone. But I couldn't escape this particular video. I couldn't avoid the brutal reality. I couldn't ignore it, and I couldn't unknow it. And it happens here in Australia too, no matter how much we bury our heads in the sand.

Thank you to everyone who attended the protests today. It is important, and it is necessary.
